Dayot Upamecano’s contract with FC Bayern expires next summer. The club is keen to extend his contract, but there is currently nothing to announce. Chief Sporting Officer Max Eberl has now announced the interim status
The contract poker with Dayot Upamecano has been dragging on for several months, with interest from other clubs such as Liverpool FC, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain being reported almost daily. But as Max Eberl reported at the press conference, talks with Upamecano are progressing well
„We’re talking, we’ve been talking for some time and we’re actually on the right track in one case or another. Nevertheless, if there’s something to announce, we’ll announce it. I can only say what we want to say and that is that we’re really in talks,“ said the sporting director about the current negotiation situation
However, the negotiations with the French centre-back are by no means a foregone conclusion, as Eberl went on to explain: „We are holding talks, we are conducting negotiations. We want to conclude them as quickly as possible, and that has been communicated. But as I said, this is a big contract for Upa, an important time in his career. There are many arguments in favour of Bayern. But of course, there is probably also the argument ‚why not try something else‘ in the player’s mind.“
Eberl: „I don’t think that’s so nice“
As far as the Upamecano negotiations are concerned, however, Eberl also had one thing to make clear: „If at some point contract talks like this enter into the private sphere of players, then it somehow becomes a point […] so we’re still talking about soccer, we’re still talking about important decisions that the player has to make. Important decisions that we want in order to push ahead with our plans. That’s what it’s all about.“
He is probably alluding to the recently leaked news of Upamecano’s move within Munich. Last Saturday, BILD had observed how a removal van had stopped outside the Frenchman’s house in order to transport his belongings to another house in the Munich suburb of Grünwald. Numerous Bayern stars such as Joshua Kimmich, Michael Olise and Leon Goretzka live there
Eberl said in this regard: „If it then takes steps further at some point, then I honestly find that reprehensible. I don’t think that’s so nice.“
