FC Bayern’s talks with Dayot Upamecano over a contract extension are in full swing. Bayern are working flat out on an extension for Dayot Upamecano. As reported in the BILD podcast Bayern Insider, the centre-back has already received a concrete offer from the German record champions. BILD head of soccer Christian Falk clearly categorised the situation: „Financially, we are pretty much in agreement. Basic salary, bonuses, signing fee, it all fits.“
This makes it clear that the talks are at an advanced stage and are no longer about fundamental issues. A salary of 20 million euros is being discussed and the signing fee is also said to be just under 20 million euros
The crux of the matter lies rather in the terms of the contract. Falk emphasizes: „The exit clause is the sticking point.“ Upamecano’s management is pushing for an early exit clause, while Bayern is putting the brakes on precisely here. According to BILD information, FCB would like to allow such a clause from the second year of the new contract at the earliest in order to avoid renewed transfer rumours immediately after an extension

From Munich’s point of view, this attitude is understandable. Dayot Upamecano has established himself as a defensive leader this season and is one of the most consistent players in the squad. A long-term contract should not only bring sporting stability, but also calm to a defence that has experienced repeated upheavals in recent years. BILD reporter Tobi Altschäffl explains in the podcast: „Bayern already know that he will only extend with a clause. Bayern would like this clause to take effect from the second year.“
At the same time, it is clear that Upamecano wants to keep a back door open. Top international clubs such as Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation.
