FC Bayern would like to extend Harry Kane’s contract, but the superstar is setting the pace. Now it is known when concrete talks are to start – and why the release clause is currently not an issue
FC Bayern would like to get down to business immediately. Harry Kane is not only Munich’s most important attacking player, but has also long been the face of the team under Vincent Kompany. In sporting terms, the Englishman delivers week after week, breaking records and justifying every euro of his 100 million transfer fee. Contractually, however, patience is required – and it is precisely this patience that the Bayern bosses must now muster
As reported by Sport BILD, the time for possible contract talks has already been clearly defined internally. According to the report, concrete negotiations about an extension will only take place after the 2026 World Cup. The World Cup final will take place on 19 July, meaning a new Kane contract could drag on until late summer. This is not an ideal scenario for FC Bayern, but one that is acceptable
Kane wants to stay – clause not an issue

The most important news from Munich’s point of view: Harry Kane is not planning to trigger his release clause. His contract, which runs until 2027, stipulates that he could activate an option until 31 January 2026, which would have allowed him to move in the summer for a transfer fee of around €65 million. According to Sport BILD, however, Kane has no interest in doing so
This is in line with the impression that the 32-year-old has recently made in public. Kane feels at home in Munich, both in sporting and private terms. His family has arrived, the environment is right – and above all, the prospects are right. FC Bayern are currently one of Europe’s top clubs for him, and a move would not bring any added sporting value from his point of view
What’s more, Kane is playing at a statistically exceptional level, even by his own standards. With his 80th Bundesliga goal in 77 games, he has pulverized a record set by Gerd Müller – a record that once again underlines his status at the record champions. This is precisely why Bayern’s desire for an extension is more than understandable
Bayern respects Kane’s schedule
Nevertheless, Munich’s management are not pushing. Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl recently made it clear that they are relaxed about the situation. Kane is „in the form of his life“, feels „really good“ at FC Bayern – and that is precisely the best basis for everything else. The club knows that pressure would be counterproductive at this stage
From Kane’s point of view, the timing is logical. The 2026 World Cup is likely to be the last major tournament of his career. The focus is clearly on staying in top physical and mental shape. Contract talks, discussions about terms or salaries should not interfere with this focus. Only after the tournament does Kane want to deal intensively with his future
For FC Bayern, this means a certain amount of uncertainty on paper, but no acute danger in sporting terms. Kane will not trigger the clause, and a short-term departure is out of the question. At the same time, Munich have enough time to put together an extension package that does justice to the Englishman’s importance – without having to act hastily.
