Dayot Upamecano’s contract with FC Bayern expires in the summer and the financial demands for a new signature are high. One expert has now expressed a very clear opinion on the matter.
As reported by BILD , Dayot Upamecano is demanding an annual salary of 20 million euros and a hefty hand money of 22 million euros in the event of a contract extension at FC Bayern. When asked about this, BILD expert Alfred Draxler gave a clear opinion: „It may be in line with the market, but it also shows how crazy and perverse this market has become.“
Draxler continued: „This signing fee of 22 million euros, which Davies also received, is for signing a contract extension. I don’t know why you have to pay 22 million to then receive a salary of 20 million per year over the next few years.“ All in all, it’s too much and I maintain: the industry has simply become perverse.“
The reason for his outrage is also an old rule, as Draxler explained in the episode: „We’re talking about a defender here. Old rule in soccer: defenders earn less than strikers. Not because they’re not more important, but because there are more of them. It’s more difficult to find a good striker. I don’t think it’s good for me and the fans don’t understand it either.“
Interested parties are queuing up for Upamecano
With his contract expiring, Dayot Upamecano is in a very strong negotiating position with FC Bayern, but also with other clubs interested in his services. In addition to Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in particular are said to be vying for the French international. Upamecano has recently been surprisingly open about a move to the reigning Champions League winners from Paris.
