An old conflict between the fan camps of FC Bayern and TSV 1860 Munich is flaring up again – and this time it is being sprayed all over the city. For months, supporters of both clubs have been fighting a graffiti war in which electricity boxes, walls, street signs and benches have become symbolic battlefields. Now the next round has begun: Bayern fans have responded to a particularly provocative action by the Lions with a paint attack of their own
The latest upsurge in rivalry was triggered by large 1860 lettering on a hill behind FC Bayern’s training pitches, emblazoned in blue with „1860“ and the sentence: „We are at home in Munich-Giasing. The city is blue. It will always be that way.“
For many Bayern supporters, this was a deliberate provocation – after all, the site is less than a ten-minute walk from Säbener Strasse. The close proximity of the two club headquarters has grown historically and still forms the breeding ground for rivalry in the city today

As reported by BILD, the counter-attack has now followed: Bayern fans painted over the 1860 graffiti in the club’s red and white colors and put their own „FCB“ lettering over it. A clear message in the city duel – and at the same time the latest escalation stage in the ongoing graffiti dispute
The action was not without risk, however, and the police are now keeping a close eye on the situation, as damage to property remains damage to property – regardless of the rivalry between the clubs
Police investigating – two arrests already made
The graffiti war is no longer just a matter for the fans, but also for the authorities. Three and a half weeks ago, two arrests were made after Bayern supporters sprayed a wall near the Luitpoldpark in Schwabing. The suspects were charged with damage to property, but were later released
However, the police were unable to prevent the latest attack on the hill behind the Bayern grounds – a sign of how dynamic the conflict currently is
It remains to be seen whether the rivalry will escalate further or whether the authorities will intervene more forcefully, but one thing is certain: the graffiti spat between Bayern and 1860 is far more than just a game of paint – it is an expression of a city rivalry that is deeply rooted in Munich’s soccer culture.
