FC Bayern are once again keeping an eye on an up-and-coming talent: Valentín Barco is causing a sensation in France – and is arousing desires at Säbener Strasse. The 21-year-old Argentinian is playing a strong season for Racing Strasbourg and has long been regarded as one of the most exciting midfield profiles in Ligue 1. But Munich are not the only ones scouting the left-footer intensively
Valentín Barco, who only moved permanently from Brighton & Hove Albion to Racing Strasbourg in the summer for around ten million euros, has quickly made an impression in France. The 21-year-old is an undisputed regular in the north-east of the country, impressing with his dynamism, technique and courage on the ball – and is now also increasingly becoming a topic of interest for the German record champions.
As the English portal CaughtOffside reports, FC Bayern have put Barco on their list of potential future reinforcements. There have already been several observations, but Munich are not alone in the race. Atlético Madrid and Chelsea FC – the latter particularly close due to the shared club structure with Strasbourg – are also said to be showing intense interest.
Barco’s contract in Strasbourg runs until 2029, which means a transfer would be expensive. Given its ownership structure, the French club could also opt for an internal solution with Chelsea should a sale be on the cards.
One of the most exciting left-footed players in Ligue 1

The Argentine, who has already earned a senior international cap for the Albiceleste, brings a profile that is rare to find across Europe. He combines excellent technique with bold one-on-one actions, possesses pace, close ball control and a strong decision-making ability in the final third. His left foot is considered above average in terms of precision, both on crosses and diagonal combinations.
In the current Ligue 1 season, Barco has made 13 appearances, scored one goal and provided four assists – figures that underline his steady development as a central midfielder. In France, he is already regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the league, with some experts even rating his potential significantly higher.
Bayern looking for long-term reinforcement – does Barco fit the profile?
FC Bayern is working intensively on expanding its midfield, especially in view of the possible departure of Leon Goretzka. Munich is looking for flexible, dynamic players who combine technique and pace – qualities that Barco fulfils almost ideally.
However, the fact that several top European clubs are involved makes the personnel issue complicated. Strasbourg and Chelsea could prefer transfers between themselves, while Atletico traditionally remain an attractive target due to their Argentinian connection. For Bayern, Barco would be an issue above all if a long-term midfield project presents itself.
