Manuel Neuer is considering an extension – Alexander Nübel, meanwhile, is about to leave the club. Bayern have apparently been planning without the loan keeper for some time.
For Alexander Nübel, the FC Bayern chapter could soon be closed for good. The 29-year-old is still tied to the record champions until 2029 and is performing well at his loan station VfB Stuttgart. However, a return to Munich seems realistic at best if Manuel Neuer ends his career in the summer – and that is precisely what is not foreseeable at the moment.
The Bayern management would therefore prefer to sell Nübel. His market value is around twelve million euros and, according to the AZ, the transfer fee could be up to 20 million euros. A transfer would not only create space in the squad, but would also provide financial leeway for a possible extension with Neuer, as his salary is one of the highest in the squad.
Future in goal: Nübel probably out, Urbig convinced
In sporting terms, Nübel hardly plays a role in the long-term squad planning. Although Max Eberl recently emphasised that they are „in discussions with all goalkeepers“, the trust is in others. Jonas Urbig is being built up internally as a future successor, Daniel Peretz is also committed long-term. „From that point of view, we are very happy that we are very well positioned for the time after Manuel, if that comes at some point,“ explained sporting director Christoph Freund recently.
Nübel also experienced a bitter afternoon in the recent 5-0 defeat to FC Bayern: uncertainty, a serious slip-up – and on the other hand a strong performance from Urbig, who showed calm and intelligence in his appearances.
Manuel Neuer himself has not yet made his decision. „The decisive factor will be how I feel in the second half of the season,“ Neuer said recently. He clearly ruled out a return to the national team: „The fact is that I have deliberately retired. For me, the focus is clearly on the club and what we can achieve with the team.“ Internally, the record champions are expecting Neuer to stay at club level for another year.
