FC Bayern are looking for reinforcements in attack – specifically on the left wing, where they have hardly any alternatives apart from Luis Díaz. The Colombian’s enormous level is both a curse and a blessing: Díaz is outstanding with 18 goals in 19 appearances, but the dependency on him is growing. This is precisely why the record champions are sounding out the market for a young winger who can be built up behind Díaz in the future.
According to Sky, two names have emerged: Said El Mala and Malick Fofana.
The 19-year-old Said El Mala is regarded as a top talent of the next generation and has been in Bayern’s notebook for months. The left winger has exactly the profile that Munich want for Díaz’s back-up role: enormous pace, strong one-on-one skills and clear development prospects.
However, El Mala is no longer an insider tip. In addition to FC Bayern, international heavyweights such as Manchester City, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in him. This complicates the poker game – but internally, El Mala is still seen as the ideal solution. FC Bayern are monitoring his situation closely and would be prepared to take action at an early stage to avoid being outbid again by financially strong rivals.
Malick Fofana: Plan B – but a serious alternative
Should El Mala prove unfeasible, Malick Fofana would be the next name on the list. The Belgian was already a hot candidate at Säbener Straße last summer. According to reports, there were concrete talks between Bayern and the player’s side at the time.
A transfer failed mainly due to the financial demands of Olympique Lyon, who were asking for around 40 million euros – a sum that Munich were not prepared to pay given the transfer situation at the time.
But Fofana remains in focus despite everything. His pace, his dynamism in transitional situations and his flexibility on both wings continue to make him interesting. And: Bayern know that the 20-year-old has already demonstrated a higher level of performance than many other players in his age group.
