Thomas Müller has quickly settled in with the Vancouver Whitecaps, but is also thinking about his long-term future in soccer alongside his everyday sporting life. In an interview, the world champion spoke openly about possible next steps.
Since his transfer in August, Müller has been chasing the first MLS title in the club’s history with Vancouver. San Diego await in the semi-finals – a win could even lead to a clash with Lionel Messi in the final. In an interview with RTL/ntv , the 36-year-old explained: „Of course we want to win and get to the final.“
Despite the upcoming semi-final, Müller also took time to talk about his future career path. He confirmed that he will not be ending his career any time soon: „I have a contract here until 2026 and will also be playing here in 2026. I’m looking forward to the next season.“ He is particularly excited that the 2026 World Cup will also be held in Vancouver: „The World Cup is even coming to Vancouver, and I’m delighted to be in the thick of it.“
Müller is deliberately keeping many doors open for the time after 2026. „Of course, I sometimes spend my free evenings thinking about what comes after that,“ he explained. At the same time, he emphasized: „I’ve always said to myself: everything that comes after that comes after that. I don’t want to prepare for things in parallel, but rather consciously start preparing for the next steps afterwards – whether on the coaching bench, in management or something completely different.“
Hoeneß reports Bayern offer to Müller

The fact that FC Bayern wanted him at the club was demonstrated by an unusual offer during his final phase at the record champions. As Uli Hoeneß told the OMR podcast, the club wanted to send Müller „around the world for a year at our expense“ in order to build him up specifically for a future management role. Hoeneß reported: „But he told me: not yet.“ Müller opted for the sporting challenge in Canada instead.
Nevertheless, he cannot completely detach himself from FCB. The long-time crowd favourite is impressed by the current team: „The team is very well positioned and the coaching team around Vincent Kompany is doing an excellent job,“ he said. In addition, he remains close despite the time difference: „I’m in contact with my old colleagues, watch a lot of highlights and keep up to date.“
