Several contracts at FC Bayern expire in the summer. Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl talks about extensions, but also possible departures.
In an interview with Sport BILD, Max Eberl spoke openly about future personnel decisions at FC Bayern – and made it clear that departures are also possible. The upcoming contract extensions in particular will be a touchstone for Munich’s salary structure.
When asked whether salary reductions will remain an issue with the extensions – for Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka or Manuel Neuer, for example – Eberl explained: „We will talk about savings at certain points, yes. That also depends on age, the squad and a changed salary structure. The players can accept that or, as in the case of Leroy Sané, not accept it. Then we’ll come to a clean break.“
A clear statement: Bayern want to reorganize their wage structure – and will no longer extend every contract on the old terms. Those who go along with this will stay. Those who don’t could have to change.
Eberl: Initial talks with Gnabry and Goretzka’s advisors
The sporting director confirmed that anything is still possible with Goretzka and Gnabry: „Yes, without wanting to give a time frame for a decision. We have held initial talks with both players and their agencies. Everything is open and there is no deadline for either of them.“ The future of the two internationals therefore remains open. Both contracts expire in 2026 – and the new salary strategy could lead to difficult negotiations.

The situation is much simpler with Konrad Laimer. The Austrian is a regular under Vincent Kompany, delivers strong performances and is considered indispensable internally. Eberl praised the midfielder in the highest terms: „Konny is doing outstandingly well and is hugely important for the mix in our team. With his energy, willingness and morale, a player like him is the glue in our team. We can very, very well imagine extending our contract with him.“
