FC Bayern is facing a decisive year in its squad planning. Numerous contracts expire in the summer of 2026 – and while talks have long been underway internally, the fans have now also taken a clear stance.
A survey by the FanQ platform clearly shows who the supporters want to keep in Munich and which players they no longer see a need for. 3,196 fans took part from 17 to 24 November 2025 – and the results speak for themselves.
With 80.37% approval, Dayot Upamecano is the undisputed leader of the ranking. The defender is the big favourite of Bayern fans – and that is in line with the club’s strategy. The club has been negotiating an extension for months. Upamecano himself recently emphasised: „It’s not about the money.“ For sporting director Max Eberl, he is the key player of the future: „He would be the internal king transfer for us.“
The fans see it the same way: For them, Upamecano is an indispensable cornerstone of the defense.
Gnabry surprises – fans reward the offensive star’s comeback
Serge Gnabry also enjoys a lot of support with 68.75%. The 30-year-old has made an impressive comeback under Vincent Kompany and consistently delivers strong performances. According to consistent media reports, both the player and the club want to extend his contract – and Gnabry is even open to salary cuts. The fans seem to clearly support this approach.
Manuel Neuer received 57.84% support – a solid, but by no means unambiguous vote. The captain continues to play strongly, but age is a concern for the fans. The club does not want to make a decision until the spring. Christoph Freund emphasises: „We are under no pressure.“
The situation with Leon Goretzka is even tighter, with only 47.73 per cent in favour of him – a minority. Although a winter departure is ruled out according to BILD , the competition in midfield – especially from Aleksandar Pavlovic and his rival Tom Bischof – is causing great uncertainty.
Clear departure: Ulreich, Guerreiro and Jackson lose confidence
Sven Ulreich lands at the bottom with 27.05 per cent. According to kicker, his career in Munich will probably end in the summer. An extension is not planned, but he could move to another role at the club.
The verdict on Raphaël Guerreiro (21.89%) is even clearer, with the Portuguese playing an underwhelming role under Kompany.
Bringing up the rear: Nicolas Jackson, the on-loan striker only receives 14.16% approval. The fans do not see him as a player for the long-term future.
