Kompany’s assistant coach: This is the Bayern plan with Maric

Vincent Kompany is preparing for his role as head coach at FC Bayern Munich and is bringing René Maric into the team as his right-hand man. Maric, currently still the U19 coach, is known within the club for his tactical creativity and good team leadership.

The decision in favour of Maric is a logical consequence of their joint coaching training. Even back then, the two are said to have complemented each other well, both personally and in terms of their approach to the game. According to the Münchner Abendzeitung newspaper, Maric, who is also Bayern’s team manager for coaching development and playing ideas, will play a central role in the new coaching team in future. His task will be to closely dovetail the professional team with the campus.

This role as liaison officer, most recently filled by Thomas Tuchel’s assistant coach Arno Michels, fits Maric’s profile perfectly. The Austrian has also made a name for himself in the Bundesliga during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund. His good relationship with the players and his open communication are seen as great strengths.

Hainer calls for „statement players made by Bayern“

Sports director Christoph Freund, who already knows Maric from their time together in Salzburg, is seen as an important supporter of this appointment. The appointment of Maric underlines FC Bayern’s strategy of focussing more on its own young talent. „We need more statement players made by Bayern again,“ emphasised club president Herbert Hainer at the club’s last general meeting. In the future, Munich want to build up even more players like Musiala and Pavlovic in their squad.

It is not yet clear whether Maric will continue in his current role on campus alongside his new role. His contract there expires at the end of June, but he is expected to sign a new contract as assistant coach. The new coaching team is to be officially unveiled this week in order to press ahead with plans for the 2024/25 season.
