Despite two new centre-backs joining FC Bayern in the past season, the club still does not appear to be satisfied with its central defensive line-up. The Munich club are therefore rumoured to be interested in António Silva from Benfica, but the chances are rather slim.

Two centre-backs, Minjae Kim and Eric Dier, arrived at the Isar over the course of last season, but FC Bayern are still looking for reinforcements in defence. With Kim in particular failing to impress with performances such as in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid, Bayern are keeping an eye on talented defender António Silva from Benfica Lisbon.

He could help improve the worst record among the top five teams in the Bundesliga of 45 goals conceded in 34 games. The problem is that, in addition to FC Bayern, other top clubs are also rumoured to be interested in the Portuguese. According to information from Spanish transfer portal fichajes.net, three extremely financially strong Premier League clubs – Arsenal FC, Manchester United and Liverpool FC – have their eyes on the 20-year-old.

Is António Silva too expensive for FC Bayern?

In addition to the renowned competition from the island, the price is also a decisive factor in the German record champions potentially missing out on António Silva. All three rivals are said to have already held talks with Benfica, from which it is said that Silva would only be available for a transfer fee of 100 million euros.

Even though Uli Hoeneß hinted a few weeks ago that the club was still capable of spending such large sums and Silva is regarded as one of the world’s greatest defensive talents, who has matured into an absolute regular with 94 competitive games in Lisbon, it remains unlikely that FC Bayern will spend such a sum on a centre-back.
