Toni Kroos is ending his highly successful professional career after this summer’s European Championship. Real Madrid are thus losing one of the most important players of recent years. The Whites are said to already be on the lookout for a new pace-setter for the centre of midfield. The Madrilenians are apparently also looking at Joshua Kimmich.

With Toni Kroos‘ career coming to an end, Real Madrid are apparently planning to sign a new midfield strategist. According to the latest media reports, Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester City’s Rodri and Bayern star Joshua Kimmich are currently considered the most promising candidates to succeed Kroos.

AS reports that the Whites have had Kimmich on their radar for some time. Although he has recently been repeatedly linked with a move to FC Barcelona, such a costly transfer appears to be difficult to realise for the financially strapped Catalans.

According to information from AS, Bayern are reportedly asking for a transfer fee of between 60 and 70 million for Kimmich. On top of this, the 29-year-old’s extremely high salary – estimated to be around 20 million euros per year – would also have to be taken into account.

Kimmich commented on the speculation surrounding a possible move to Spain: „I will talk to Bayern first. But of course Barça and Real Madrid are incredible clubs with an incredible history.“

Extension or departure in the summer?

However, Kimmich is said to have not yet made a decision regarding his sporting future. One of the reasons for this is that it is still unclear who will be the coach of the German record champions next season. In recent days, however, there have been growing signs that Vincent Kompany could become Thomas Tuchel’s successor.

The signing of a new coach is also likely to be the starting signal for negotiations between Kimmich and the Bayern management. In principle, the DFB international feels comfortable in Munich, but he would like to know whether and how Bayern plan to work with him in the future. In addition to the coaching issue, the club’s future philosophy and plans will also play a role.

If no agreement is reached, a move to another European country is by no means ruled out. In addition to Real and Barça, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also rumoured to be interested in signing Kimmich.
