The unsuccessful search for a coach so far does not reflect well on FC Bayern. Liverpool legend and TV pundit Jamie Carragher thinks he knows where Munich’s problem lies and has a suggestion for the club.
Liverpool FC and FC Bayern’s search for a coach could hardly have been more contrasting. While the Reds have been able to sign Arne Slot, a very successful coach of late, relatively quickly and quietly, Munich have had one rejection after another.
Jamie Carragher sees Bayern’s high coach attrition rate as the reason for this. While Klopp characterised a nine-year era at Liverpool, no coach at FC Bayern has been trusted for more than two years since Pep Guardiola (2013-2016). This has now also been recognised on the island.

„Basically, I don’t think Bayern’s coach is as important as Liverpool’s because Bayern change their coach every two years. Everyone gets a go,“ the former defence player explained slightly mockingly in an interview with Sport BILD. At the Reds, on the other hand, a coach is „more likely to sit on the bench for five years or longer. They get more time.“
Carragher criticises Nagelsmann’s sacking
According to the 46-year-old, Bayern made a big mistake last season in particular. „Bayern probably made a mistake in parting ways with Julian Nagelsmann. He did a good job, as he is doing now with the national team,“ explained Carragher.
In particular, the fact that Nagelsmann was given a five-year contract and was sacked at the first opportunity still leaves some perplexed. FC Bayern even wanted Nagelsmann back after the Tuchel exit and the Alonso cancellation, but failed in this attempt.
In view of the unsuccessful search, Carragher is now proposing an „interim solution for one year“. The club could then try Jürgen Klopp. Although Bayern bosses may have similar thoughts, it is somewhat absurd that Carragher criticises the short half-life of Bayern coaches and then proposes a one-year solution.
Furthermore, in view of Klopp’s uncertain future plans and his BVB past, it is unclear whether a Bayern coaching job would even be on the table for him.
