The future of Josip Stanisic continues to be the subject of speculation. Contrary to earlier reports that the Croatian allegedly wants to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, the situation could turn out differently according to the latest information.
Josip Stanisic, currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, is scheduled to return to FC Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024. It was recently reported that the player himself had expressed a preference for Leverkusen. According to a recent report by kicker, however, this is not the case.
The situation surrounding Stanisic is actually quite clear: there is no option to buy for Bayer Leverkusen and the club has not yet made an official offer to sign him permanently.
Nevertheless, staying in Leverkusen does not seem impossible. A decisive factor for Stanisic’s future could be the future of Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel. Last summer, Tuchel did not plan with Stanisic, which originally paved the way for the loan. Should the 50-year-old coach remain in charge at Bayern and not change his mind about the player, this could prompt the defender to seek a permanent departure from Munich. At present, there are many indications that Tuchel will surprisingly remain as FC Bayern coach.
Stanisic an absolute key player at Leverkusen
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Bayern, it is unclear whether the German record champions would be prepared to sell Stanisic to a direct rival such as Bayer Leverkusen. Bayer Leverkusen have established themselves as a serious rival for Munich. Those responsible at the German record champions are unlikely to want to strengthen their strongest rivals next season.

After a mixed start to the second half of the season, Stanisic developed into an absolute regular and key player. He played a major part in the first German championship in the club’s history and the chance of two more titles for the Werkself. Meanwhile, Bayern remained without a title.
Meanwhile, FC Bayern is planning to integrate more players from its own youth programme into the professional team. Stanisic, a native of Munich, could fit into this strategy, provided the future coaching decision supports this.
