After FC Bayern recently suffered several rejections, Unai Emery is now said to be the favourite to succeed Thomas Tuchel. At a press conference, the Spaniard commented on the rumours surrounding him.

Xabi Alonso remains at Leverkusen, Julian Nagelsmann at the DFB – FC Bayern’s search for a coach is proving to be extremely complicated. According to the latest reports in BILD, only Unai Emery and Roberto De Zerbi are now on the shortlist of Munich’s managers. Due to his international experience, Emery is currently considered the favourite for the coaching position at the German record champions.

Emery comments on Bayern’s alleged interest

The Aston Villa coach is currently battling with his team for a place in the Champions League. After the Villains‘ 3:1 win against AFC Bournemouth, the Spaniard was asked about the alleged interest from FC Bayern.

„I’m focused here, 100 per cent,“ he replied succinctly. Although this statement certainly leaves room for speculation, it could indeed be difficult to convince the 52-year-old of a move to Munich. According to information from Sky, Emery is leaning towards staying in the Premier League.

Matthäus convinced by Emery

Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus, meanwhile, has spoken out in favour of signing Emery. „I would get Unai Emery from Aston Villa. He’s doing a great job there. He has a lot of experience – also internationally – and he has titles to his name, for example with Sevilla,“ explained the record international.

„He speaks perfect English. He can learn German, but the players all speak English anyway, so I don’t see any language barrier.“

Emery has worked for Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal FC, among others, in the past. He won the Europa League three times in a row with Sevilla FC between 2014 and 2016. he even won it a second time with Villareal FC in 2021. Emery is also in the semi-finals of this year’s Conference League with Aston Villa.
