Are Bayern serious about their dream player for the defence? There are reports in Spain that Munich are negotiating with representatives of Barca defender Ronald Araujo.
FC Bayern’s interest in Ronald Araujo from FC Barcelona has been reported repeatedly since the winter. Those responsible at the German record champions would probably have preferred to sign the defender from Uruguay in the winter transfer window. However, Barca decided against a sale – in particular, coach Xavi apparently vetoed the move.
Now Bayern are said to be pushing for a transfer of the defence star for next summer. Catalan journalist Lluis Canut, who is usually well-informed on FC Barcelona-related topics, reported on Esport3 that Bayern are negotiating with Araujo’s representatives.
According to the report, Bayern are not prepared to pay a transfer fee of around 100 million euros, which Barca allegedly envisage for Araujo. According to Canut, Bayern would rather spend 65 to 70 million euros on their dream defender.
Will Barcelona sell Araujo in the summer?
Araujo’s contract at Barcelona runs until 2026 and he is an undisputed regular at Barca. The 25-year-old can play in central defence, but also as a right-back.
Due to Barca’s tight financial situation, it is quite possible that the Catalans will have to generate income by selling players in the summer.
There have already been reports of an exit clause in Araujo’s contract totalling around 80 million euros. If this clause does indeed exist and Bayern are prepared to pay this amount, they would only have to come to an agreement with the player. In the winter, however, it was rumoured that Araujo was not sure about a transfer. Most recently, he also emphasised that he feels comfortable at his current club.
