Due to the absences of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, as well as the suspension of Alphonso Davies, Thomas Tuchel will have to rebuild his team for tonight’s Champions League second leg against Arsenal FC (9pm, live on DAZN). According to the latest reports, the 50-year-old could surprise the Gunners with a tactical trick.
Even though Manuel Neuer and Leroy Sané have reported fit in time for the Arsenal second leg, Thomas Tuchel will not be able to draw on a full complement of players.
The FCB coach will have to make up for the absence of Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Alphonso Davies. It will be particularly interesting to see who will replace the suspended Canadian at left-back in the back four. With Noussair Mazraoui and Raphaël Guerreiro, Tuchel has two options. As has now become known, both the Portuguese and the Moroccan could be in the Bayern starting XI.
Will Müller have to sit on the bench again?
As reported by BILD, both Guerreiro and Mazraoui were in the so-called „A-Elf“ during yesterday’s final training session. According to the report, Mazraoui could start at left-back. Guerreiro, on the other hand, could play offensively on the left wing and support Saka at the back as an additional defensive player against the lightning-quick right winger Bukayo.
The victim of this tactical surprise would be Thomas Tuchel. The 34-year-old was only in the „B team“ for the final game. Müller was already on the bench in the first leg and was not substituted. In addition to Guerreiro, Tuchel seems to be relying on Jamal Musiala as a ten and Leroy Sané at right-back.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Müller: the veteran was one of Bayern’s best players in the 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln and rewarded himself with a goal in stoppage time. However, the second leg against Arsenal does not look like being a Müller game again.
