Leroy Sané is experiencing a season of highs and lows at FC Bayern. While the 28-year-old’s first half of the season was very consistent, the winger was plagued by pain in the second half. His attacking output has also decreased noticeably. Talks are now underway regarding an extension to Sané’s contract, which expires in 2025. Their success depends on one important detail in particular.
Sane apparently wants to stay at the record champions, but the new coach from the summer will play a decisive role in this, as reported by kicker. According to the report, the international is determined to win the Champions League with FCB. The Dahoam 2025 final in the Allianz Arena is likely to be particularly appealing.
In the event of a contract extension, however, Sané wants a coach with whom he has a relationship of trust, as he does with Thomas Tuchel, according to the report. It is therefore also important what role the new Bayern coach envisages for him and how he wants to integrate Sané into the attacking play. Although he has not completely ruled out a move abroad, it should not be the overriding goal.
According to reports, Uli Hoeneß in particular is a fan of Sané and appreciates his playful and human qualities on and off the pitch. The Bayern star feels at home in the city of Munich and his family also has no problem staying in the Bavarian capital.
The player himself and his advisor Christian Schmid from the 11WINS agency expect talks about an extension to his contract, which expires in June 2025, to take place soon.
In favour of staying at Bayern: Sane even wants to give up money
Reports recently made the rounds that FC Bayern would like to cut the 28-year-old’s salary in the event of a possible extension. Sport BILD reported that the player’s side is basically open to this as long as the sporting prospects are right. Sané currently earns a rumoured 20 million euros a year.
The winger has appeared in 38 games for Munich this season. He has eight goals and eleven assists to his name in the Bundesliga. However, he scored his last goal at the end of October in the Bundesliga match against Darmstadt 98. Nevertheless, the former Schalke player showed how important he can be for Bayern in the quarter-final first leg against Arsenal in the Champions League and was one of the best players on the pitch.
