„Won’t be funny“: Bundesliga captain warns of Bayern revenge

After FC Bayern’s 13-point deficit to Bayer Leverkusen, there will most likely be a champion other than FCB for the first time since the 2011/12 season. Union captain Christopher Trimmel nevertheless warns the Bundesliga about the future.

After winning eleven championships in a row, the championship trophy will most likely go to Bayer Leverkusen. Even if many are happy about this event, Christopher Trimmel – captain of Union Berlin – makes the fans aware of the past.

Like many other neutral Bundesliga supporters, Trimmel is generally in favour of the change in leadership. „It’s good that Leverkusen is a club other than Bayern at the top for once,“ said Trimmel in the WELT interview.

However, the Austrian is eager to see the German record champions‘ response next season. The captain only said: „It won’t be fun for German football.“

FC Bayern planning a shake-up

The 37-year-old could be referring to the time after the title-less 2011/12 season. Back then, Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga twice in a row, leaving Bayern behind. The following year, the Munich team won the treble. And they did so with a performance that is currently the most successful season in Bundesliga history. The Reds scored 91 out of a possible 102 points – making the Munich team untouchable by any team in the league.

Together with Max Eberl, a reorganisation will take place at the club after the season in order to get Bayern back on track. It all started with the departure of coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season and will continue with one or two personnel decisions.

In an interview with Sky, Eberl spoke of making the new coach clear as early as possible in order to plan the squad together with him. Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann are currently being touted as the top candidates for the job.
