FC Bayern will most likely not win any more national titles this season. However, they are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and therefore still have a chance of triumphing in the top flight. Coach Thomas Tuchel has now set his sights on reaching the final.
Coach Thomas Tuchel wants to reach the final of the Champions League with FC Bayern. At the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match at Heidenheim on Saturday (3.30pm), the 50-year-old set his team the goal of reaching the final of the Champions League at Wembley Stadium in London: „As unsatisfactory as the season has been, we still have one goal: to go to Wembley. We have to give it our all every day,“ said Tuchel.
The coach continues to demand full commitment from his players in order to achieve this goal: „We can’t let our conviction and ambition drop even one per cent. We are unhappy with the situation, but we will do everything we can to squeeze the maximum out of it.“
Tuchel: „There is no reason to hide“
Tuchel also looked at the renewed injury problems: „We want competition and the opportunity to make tactical changes, you need alternatives for that.“ Bayern will be missing Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sané, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Kingsley Coman and Noussair Mazraoui in Heidenheim.
Tuchel, meanwhile, is partly to blame for the 2-0 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund last Saturday: „I’m really unhappy with the way we played against Dortmund.“
However, the team must now put the defeat behind them in order to pick up three points at newly promoted 1. FC Heidenheim: „There’s no reason to hide away and mope. We’ll keep going and have tried to push the team again. We’ll carry on to the end with our heads held high. We’ll now have a good final training session and then head to Heidenheim.“
