According to media reports, Roberto De Zerbi is the new top favourite for the coaching job at FC Bayern Munich. However, the Brighton coach is being heavily courted internationally. Now another Premier League club is rumoured to be interested in De Zerbi.
FC Bayern is still looking for a coach. Following the cancellation of Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi appears to be the new preferred candidate of the Munich management. However, signing the Brighton Hove & Albion coach could prove complicated.
As the portal CaughtOffside reports, Chelsea FC are also rumoured to be considering signing De Zerbi. According to the report, interest in the Brighton coach is „increasing“.
According to CaughtOffside, the future of Mauricio Pochettino, who only took over the Blues at the start of the current season, is „not certain“. Much will depend on whether the club from London manages to qualify for the European competition.
Chelsea FC is currently in a disappointing tenth place in the Premier League despite billions of euros of investment. They are at least in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but Pochettino and his team face an extremely difficult task in Manchester City.
Tough competition for FC Bayern
It only became known yesterday that Juventus are also rumoured to be interested in De Zerbi. The Italian could succeed Massimiliano Allegri, whose coaching position is increasingly shaky after a mixed season.
The 44-year-old has also recently been linked with FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC. According to recent media reports, however, the Reds appear to have chosen Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon as their preferred candidate.
For the Catalans, on the other hand, the fixed exit clause of around 14 million could become a problem.
Decision imminent
De Zerbi recently stated that he had not yet made a decision regarding his sporting future. However, he wants to discuss his future with the Brighton bosses in the near future: „I will talk to Tony Bloom about the plans for next season and then I will decide.“
Bayern, on the other hand, want to have planning certainty for the coming season as quickly as possible. Sporting director Max Eberl expressed his desire to make „the best decision“ as quickly as possible, ideally in April.
