There is a big question mark over Alexander Nübel’s sporting future. The 27-year-old is currently being linked with numerous clubs. A return to FC Bayern is also still a possibility. Nübel has now given a clear indication of where he would like to play in the coming season.
Nübel is on loan from FC Bayern to VfB Stuttgart until the end of the current season. The Swabians have not secured a purchase option. As things stand today, Nübel is expected back in Munich on 1 July. Due to the fact that Manuel Neuer has presented himself in absolute top form in recent months after his long injury, a return to FCB in the summer of 2024 seems almost impossible.
According to the latest reports, Bayern would like to extend the goalkeeper’s contract on a long-term basis, loan him out again and make a new attempt at the number 1 position at FCB in 2025 – provided Neuer hangs up his goalkeeping gloves.
Numerous clubs are interested: Nübel feels at home in Stuttgart
Nübel has now commented on his sporting future for the first time and clearly indicated what his preferred solution would be in the summer. „I still have a year left on my contract at Bayern, but I feel very comfortable here in Stuttgart. I think everyone knows that,“ he emphasised on Sunday after the Bundesliga match against Heidenheim.
According to his own statements, he will sit down with his advisor in the next „one, two or three weeks“: „He knows what I want and he’ll do it.“ However, VfB Stuttgart is „a very, very good option“, said Nübel.
According to reports, the Bayern bosses would be willing to extend the loan, provided Nübel extends his contract with FCB beforehand. Should this not work out, there are numerous other options. Most recently, there have been reports that AS Roma, Sporting Lisbon and Newcastle United are all interested in the 27-year-old goalkeeper.
