The future of Leroy Sané at FC Bayern Munich seems to be gradually taking on clearer contours. After much speculation, there are many indications that the winger could extend his contract beyond 2025.
According to Sané himself, he is in active dialogue with the club and, according to the Münchner Abendzeitung newspaper, has signalled his openness to a continued collaboration. „I feel very, very comfortable, my family and I feel very comfortable,“ the Bayern star said during his visit to the German national team. The 28-year-old had travelled to the national team despite a red card suspension in order to strengthen the close relationship with the team shortly before the home European Championships.
Talks about a contract extension already seemed to be heading in a positive direction a few weeks ago. „We are on a very, very good path,“ said Sané in January. His good relationship with club icon Uli Hoeneß in particular could play a decisive role in the negotiations.
Nevertheless, no agreement has yet been reached. Recently, Sané has struggled with fluctuations in form – certainly also due to injury problems. However, Munich’s management are also leaning towards extending the attacking player’s contract.
According to BILD, a new contract has not yet been discussed in concrete terms, but contract talks are due to begin in April.
Sané wants to „give something back“ to fans
A decision should also be made soon, as Sané’s contract expires in 2025 and he is one of the highest earners in the team. If no agreement is reached, the club will face the difficult choice of selling the player or risk letting him go on a free transfer at a later date.
Sané himself has clearly defined his goals with the club – first and foremost winning the Champions League. With the 2025 Champions League final in Munich, he also has a very special incentive to stay with the club and „give something back“ to the fans.
