In the search for a new head coach, FC Bayern has to assert itself against well-known competitors. Liverpool FC and Munich in particular seem to be getting in each other’s way in the search for a new coach.
It is rare for three top clubs such as FC Bayern, Liverpool and FC Barcelona to be looking for a new head coach in the summer. At all three clubs, it is already clear that the coaching job will be filled at the end of the season.
The Reds and the German record champions in particular appear to have a similar requirement profile in their search for a new coach. It is an open secret that Xabi Alonso is at the top of both clubs‘ wish lists. As has now become known, Roberto De Zerbi is the first alternative for both clubs behind the successful Leverkusen coach.
Bayern and Liverpool have De Zerbi on their radar
As the British Daily Mail reports, both Liverpool and Bayern are interested in De Zerbi. Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes is a big fan of the Italian and already tried to lure him to Bournemouth two years ago.
Curious: Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl is also a big supporter of De Zerbi and sees the 44-year-old as the ideal plan B should they fail to make a move for Alonso.
As Sky and BILD revealed this week, Munich are already in contact with the Brighton coach. De Zerbi can leave the EPL club early in the summer thanks to a release clause (10-15 million euros).
It will be interesting to see how the coaching duel between Bayern and Liverpool will end. According to reports, Alonso is currently leaning towards a move to Säbener Straße. The prerequisite for this, however, is that he decides to leave Leverkusen in the summer. Should Alonso stay with the Werkself, FCB will face another transfer duel against Liverpool for De Zerbi.
