FC Bayern still needs a new coach for the coming season. Ex-FCB professional Bastian Schweinsteiger is also thinking about the search. Zinedine Zidane would inspire him.
Bastian Schweinsteiger has two favourites when it comes to finding a coach for FC Bayern. The TV pundit said in the Sportschau interview: „Xabi Alonso is a candidate, Zidane would of course also be sensational.“
Bayer Leverkusen’s Alonso is still the Bayern bosses‘ favourite candidate. But there will probably be no decision on his future before the end of the season.
Zinedine Zidane was also recently mentioned as a candidate. The Frenchman has not coached a team since leaving Real Madrid in the summer of 2021.
However, TV pundit Schweinsteiger also emphasised that Munich’s management also have other major issues in addition to the coaching question. The 39-year-old explained: „FC Bayern definitely need to change something in their squad planning. Simply replacing a coach now is not enough.“
Schweinsteiger calls for defensive stability
He added: „You certainly have to sell players or definitely make a minor shake-up.“
He sees a need „in central midfield“. With Aleksandar Pavlovic, „someone“ has already been brought into the starting eleven, but a new player may still be needed.
According to Schweinsteiger, Bayern should also strengthen „on the flanks“.
In defence, Bayern need to regain more stability, he believes: „It’s about bringing in more consistency. Bayern have conceded an incredible number of goals, which makes it more difficult to win titles. You have to bring that defensive stability back.“
The 2014 world champion added: „It’s not just about the defence, the attacking players also have to play their part. That’s a very important factor.“
