FC Bayern is still ten points behind first-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen. One reason for the current situation in the table is the missed big chances. The Munich team is not only in first place in Germany.
With 70 missed big chances, FC Bayern has missed the most in the entire Bundesliga. Despite having Harry Kane up front, Bayern missed a number of chances in front of the opposition’s box.
This high number of missed shots makes the record champions one of the unluckiest teams of the season so far. With only 50 unrealised chances, Bayer Leverkusen are second in the table, closely followed by RB Leipzig, who have failed to finish one fewer with a goal. In the game against Darmstadt 98 at the weekend alone, Bayern missed a further five chances. A slump that must be rectified in the crucial months if they are to achieve a decent position in the Champions League and the league.
Also at the top of the international rankings
It becomes alarming when you look at the international level. There, the team under Tuchel also leads the inglorious rankings. In the Premier League, Liverpool are currently in first place with 54 major chances. In Italy, Juventus have four fewer than Liverpool.
It is also clear that FC Bayern usually create more chances than most other teams in the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, the statistics are anything but satisfactory for them. Last season, the German champions were in a similar position, albeit without a real nine.
Despite Kane’s 31 goals this season, the statistic looks very sobering. If Bayern had converted one or two more chances in the season to date, they could be in a much better position now.
