Bayern are currently fully committed to signing Xabi Alonso as their new head coach. However, should the 42-year-old not be chosen, Max Eberl already has three concrete alternatives in mind.
As BILD head of football Christian Falk reports, Bayern are working on a plan B just in case. Even though the team at Säbener Straße is very confident about Alonso, there are three concrete Alonso alternatives in Roberto De Zerbi, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, according to Falk.
While De Zerbi could leave Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer thanks to a release clause, Conte and Mourinho are without a club and would therefore even be available on a free transfer.
De Zerbi appears to be the first option behind Alonso
According to Falk, „the name De Zerbi is certainly more popular than Mourinho at the moment“, as he explained in his column for CaughtOffside. According to Sky, Max Eberl in particular is a big fan of the Italian.
Eberl himself recently revealed that Bayern are discussing several coach names. The list is said to consist of more than four names: „But it’s not 40 names,“ joked the Munich sporting director.
Julian Nagelsmann is also very likely to be a topic at Säbener Straße. According to the Münchner Abendzeitung, however, there is strong headwind for the 36-year-old within FCB, which makes a comeback very unlikely at the moment.
