Dayot Upamecano is not having an easy time at FC Bayern at the moment. He has slipped down the centre-back hierarchy and is increasingly having to make do with a place on the bench. The former French national team coach is now also criticising him.
Raymond Domenech was French national team coach from 2004 to 2010 and spoke to the Munich newspaper tz about today’s international match between Germany and France.
The 72-year-old was also asked about Bayern professional Dayot Upamecano and was very critical: „Upamecano is like the current German national team. With him, you never know what performance you’re going to get.“
Upamecano has the „disease of the Germans“
From Domenech’s point of view, consistency is Upamecano’s biggest problem: „Sometimes it’s good, sometimes not so good and sometimes bad. He has the Germans‘ ‚illness‘. At times he had a good phase, but he doesn’t play consistently well.“
It will be interesting to see whether the 24-year-old will line up against the DFB team in Lyon tonight. Upamecano is not in an easy position at the moment. After two red cards, the centre-back has lost his regular place under Thomas Tuchel for the time being.
There is a big question mark over the Frenchman’s sporting future at FCB. Rumours have recently been circulating that Munich are not ruling out a sale in the summer.
