Bayern loanee Alexander Nübel has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga at VfB Stuttgart. Not only Stuttgart arehappywith the 27-year-old, Bayern bosses are also very satisfied with the goalkeeper’s development. According to the latest reports, FCB are seeking an early contract extension with Nübel.
While Nübel has never progressed beyond a reserve role at FC Bayern, the former U21 international has developed into an absolute regular goalkeeper and key player at Stuttgart. The goalkeeper’s performances have played a key role in ensuring that the Swabians are still on course for the Champions League with eight matchdays remaining in the season.
It remains to be seen what will happen to Nübel in the summer. VfB would like to keep the goalkeeper, as Stuttgart boss Alexander Wehrle recently emphasised. According to BILD, the third-placed team in the table has a good chance of keeping Nübel in the VfB goal next season. According to the report, Bayern are considering extending the loan by one year.
Eberl holds talks with Nübel
As BILD head of football Christian Falk reports in his Bayern Insider podcast, Max Eberl held talks with Nübel before the international break. According to the report, the sporting director presented the 27-year-old with a plan for the coming years. This plan envisages Nübel extending his contract with the record champions by 2-3 years and being loaned out to Stuttgart for a further season, where he can play in the Champions League and continue his development. The ex-Schalker is currently only tied to FCB until 2025.
According to Sky, Nübel is definitely open to an extension at FC Bayern. However, the goalkeeper has one condition: He would like to succeed Manuel Neuer in the summer of 2025 and become the new number 1 in Munich. According to Sky, concrete negotiations between Nübel and Bayern are expected to take place at the end of April.
It will be interesting to see whether the Bayern bosses actually agree to Nübel’s demands.
