One man who has been touted as a possible successor to Thomas Tuchel has already cancelled: a long-time Bayern star has now made it unmistakably clear that he is not to be reckoned with as FCB head coach.

„The people who run Bayern know me so well that they wouldn’t call me while I’m at River Plate,“ said Martin Demichelis: „They know how much I love River and what I did to leave Bayern and come here,“ continued the former centre-back.

„I don’t want them to call me either, because I’m very happy,“ added the 43-year-old Argentinian, to make his rejection all the clearer.

Demichelis: Familiar with the FCB environment

Demichelis left Bayern in November 2022 to join his favourite club in Argentina. His advantage would be his experience at the German record champions, because in addition to numerous successes as a player, Demichelis worked as coach of FC Bayern’s Under-19s in the 19/20 season. At the time, he succeeded Sebastian Hoeneß, who had taken over Bayern’s second team. The former defender and 51-time Argentina international later took over the second team as head coach.

He won the double four times with Bayern as a player and reached the final of the 2010 UEFA Champions League under head coach Louis van Gaal, when they lost to Inter Milan. He also gained experience as a player with Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Espanyol Barcelona and FC Málaga.

After a stint as assistant coach at Málaga FC and the two aforementioned coaching positions in Munich, he is currently in charge of River Plate in Argentina. However, it is questionable whether the people in charge at Bayern would have trusted him with the coaching job without any experience at the highest coaching level.
