FC Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala is currently in top form. A number of top European clubs have long been rumoured to be interested in the lively midfielder. However, the German record champions now appear to be sending out a clear signal.
The Catalan online newspaper El Nacional recently reported that Musiala is high on the wish list of potential new coach Hansi Flick at Barcelona.
Flick, who has worked with Musiala both at FC Bayern and with the national team, rates the young player highly. Despite Barcelona’s great interest, however, there are many indications that a transfer is unlikely to be realised. According to the report, FC Bayern are clearly signalling that the sale of Musiala is out of the question. Unless a sum of well over 100 million euros is offered – a sum that currently seems unaffordable for the indebted FC Barcelona.
There are also growing signs that FC Bayern are actively working on extending Musiala’s contract, which currently runs until 2026. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the Munich club intend to make an offer soon in order to secure Musiala’s long-term future.
Sporting prospects as a key factor
Barcelona are not the only club with an eye on Musiala. Clubs such as Chelsea FC, Manchester City and Liverpool FC have also shown interest. These clubs could be in a financial position to put together an attractive offer for the 21-year-old. Musiala joined Chelsea FC’s youth academy at an early age before moving to Munich in 2019. Recently, there have been repeated rumours about a possible return to the island.
The sporting prospects at FC Bayern could play a key role in Musiala’s decision. Musiala wants the club to present him with a clear plan on how to secure his ambitions for success in the future. It is also important to him to move closer to the club’s top earners in financial terms.
