After the 5:2 win against bottom-of-the-table Darmstadt, the German record champions are heading into the international break. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel is worried about the coming week, in which his players will be playing for their respective national teams. This is mainly due to FC Bayern’s injury worries this season.

At the press conference following the away win against Darmstadt, Thomas Tuchel commented on the upcoming international break. „I’m always worried about every international break! The biggest worry is, of course, the injury situation,“ the 50-year-old explained sceptically. The Bayern coach’s concerns are well-founded, as examples of previous time-outs due to international matches show.

This season, FC Bayern has had to contend with injury worries almost constantly, and the last international breaks were partly responsible for this. A year ago, during the international break in March, midfield star Jamal Musiala suffered a torn muscle fibre in his thigh. In October, Dayot Upamecano had to withdraw from the French national team due to a thigh injury and was a long-term absentee for Munich.

Bayern finally without serious personnel worries

Another negative example is right-back Noussair Mazraoui. The 26-year-old was on the pitch against France in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup four days after the coronavirus lockdown. He was later ruled out for a whole three months with pericarditis.

The Moroccan was also called up for the Africa Cup this season despite his injury, but fortunately this time Mazraoui’s nomination had no consequences. However, these are just three of the many serious absences.

Further setbacks would be particularly unfavourable for Munich at the moment. Against Darmstadt, only licensed players were on the bench for the first time this season, so the personnel situation is relaxed for the first time in a long time.

This is another reason why Munich will be able to return to top form in the last few games. Further absences of key players would be difficult to cope with in view of the upcoming final spurt of the season in the Bundesliga and premier class.
