Bryan Zaragoza was brought in earlier than planned in the winter to give FC Bayern more options in attack. The Spaniard is not even in the squad for Munich’s away game at Darmstadt 98.
That’s bitter for Bryan Zaragoza! FC Bayern’s new winter signing is not in the squad for the German record champions‘ game at Darmstadt 98.
Nothing is known about an injury to the 22-year-old. At yesterday’s pre-match press conference, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel only announced that the long-term injured Kingsley Coman (torn medial collateral ligament), Noussair Mazraoui (torn muscle fibre), Tarek Buchmann (muscle injury in thigh) and Bouna Sarr (torn cruciate ligament) would be missing.
Bayern’s bench in Darmstadt is also full with nine professional players. On the bench are: Sven Ulreich (goal), Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim, Alphonso Davies, Sacha Boey, Konrad Laimer, Serge Gnabry, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Mathys Tel. In the Bundesliga, a total of 20 players may be in the squad for a match: Eleven players in the starting eleven plus nine on the substitutes‘ bench. It can therefore be assumed that Tuchel found Zaragoza to be the most expendable of all the fit players for the game at the bottom of the table.
Zaragoza has language problems
This is Tuchel’s starting XI for Darmstadt: Manuel Neuer is in goal. Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt form the centre of defence. Raphael Guerreiro is at left-back. Joshua Kimmich defends on the right flank. Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic occupy the centre of midfield. In front of them, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Jamal Musiala will play in the attacking line. Harry Kane is once again responsible for the goals as centre forward.
Tuchel had recently made it clear that Zaragoza, who moved to Munich from Granada FC in January, was still struggling to integrate. Especially because of the Spanish international’s lack of language skills – both in German and English: „We brought the transfer forward to give us more time and played it safe. First and foremost, Bryan lacks the language, which is an elementary factor. It’s difficult in English and difficult in German,“ explained Tuchel.
