Harry Kane is going for Robert Lewandowski’s goal record. The English centre-forward has 30 goals to his name after the 26th matchday in the Bundesliga, one less than Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a season at the same time. The Polish attacker has now commented on the tight race.
With his 41 goals in a season, Robert Lewandowski broke Gerd Müller’s record in the 2020/21 season, which many thought was for eternity. Just a few years after Lewandowski’s record, however, Harry Kane is set to top his predecessor’s mark. The Englishman’s chances are also so good because Lewandowski missed matchdays 27 to 30 due to injury and only played 29 Bundesliga games in total. The current Barca striker also referred to this fact when asked about the recordby the Polish portal Meczyki.pl.
Lewandowski proud of 41 goals in 29 games
„I look at how many goals Harry scores and what his numbers look like at the time. I thought to myself that I’ve scored 41 goals in 29 games this season. That’s the figure I had in mind,“ he explained, once again emphasising the fact that he had cracked the mark despite his four-week break.
„I had broken the record by playing 29 games. I want to be honest and say that I appreciate this record even more. I’m proud of it. 41 goals in 29 games. I saw it more in that context and not whether the record would be broken or not,“ the ex-Bayern star clarified.
Lewandowski is not in a position to judge whether Harry Kane can surpass the 41 goals: „The fact is that the season is still running, there are still games to play. It’s not an easy task, but Harry Kane really does score a lot of goals,“ explained the attacker. However, he is even prouder „to have broken this record in 29 games.“
