FC Bayern Munich’s search for a coach is in full swing. New names are being discussed almost daily at Säbener Straße. Jürgen Klopp, who has announced his departure from Liverpool FC for the summer, is a recurring topic. Former football commentator Marcel Reif has now commented on this.
Marcel Reif described the speculation surrounding Jürgen Klopp’s commitment to FC Bayern Munich from next summer as „utter rubbish“. The cult commentator spoke about Klopp and FCB in his programme „Reif ist live“ on BILD.
The former Liverpool FC coach had announced that he would have to take a break after years of stress and strain. Reif believes it is almost impossible that he will sign on with Bayern immediately afterwards. The former commentator also does not believe it is likely that Munich will hire a temporary solution and not sign Klopp until the summer of 2025.
In any case, Xabi Alonso is still Munich’s preferred solution. However, Reif also considers this signing to be „unlikely because I am still convinced that he will do another year at Leverkusen“. Alonso is also being considered by Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Reif brings Ralf Rangnick into play
But who will be the new Bayern coach from summer 2024? Marcel Reif is currently „completely at a loss“, he revealed in his programme. For example, he rules out the possibility of former coach Louis van Gaal returning to FCB. Reif believes that Zinedine Zidane, who has also been discussed in Munich, is more likely to join Juventus. Unai Emery from Aston Villa described Reif as „interesting“. Xavi (FC Barcelona) would now rather take a one-year break.
Reif also brought a new name into play with Ralf Rangnick. The former Bundesliga coach is currently the Austrian national coach, but has repeatedly clashed with Uli Hoeneß of all people in the past. Nevertheless, Reif believes that an appointment at Bayern is „not completely out of the question“.
