FC Bayern’s squad could be set for some personnel changes in the summer. Among other things, the signing of a central midfielder still appears to be a top priority. One potential transfer candidate is rumoured to be heavily courted internationally.
New sporting director Max Eberl has his hands full at FC Bayern right from the start. First and foremost is the search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel. However, the squad planning is also already being diligently pursued in the background. For example, it was recently announced that super talent and fan favourite Mathys Tel has extended his contract in Munich early until 2029.

According to Sport BILD, the Bayern bosses are also still planning to sign a defensive midfielder. Thomas Tuchel had repeatedly stated in the past that the team lacked a real holding six. Bayern came close to signing Joao Palhinha last summer, but FC Fulham refused to release the Portuguese on deadline day.
The former successful duo in the centre of midfield, consisting of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, have been the subject of criticism for some time. Both are considered potential candidates to leave Bayern next summer. While Goretzka is said to have attracted the interest of Juventus, Kimmich appears to be on the wish list of various top clubs.
Zubimendi is highly coveted
Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad is one candidate who is constantly being discussed at Säbener Straße. A meeting between sporting director Christoph Freund and the 25-year-old’s advisor is said to have already taken place in the winter.
However,as La Gazzetta dello Sport and El Nacional are now reporting, Juventus and AC Milan are also interested in Zubimendi. While the Basque could take over from Adrien Rabiot in Turin, Milan coach Stefano Pioli is said to see Zubimendi as the „ideal midfield partner“ for Ruben Loftus-Cheek. However, Manchester United, Liverpool FC and Arsenal FC are also said to be monitoring the midfielder.
Zubimendi is a regular for the Basques and has made 41 competitive appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist. The four-time international is said to have an exit clause of around 60 million euros in his contract, which runs until 2027. According to El Nacional, he would like to leave Real Sociedad next summer so that he can regularly compete for the Champions League title.
