At just 19 years of age, Aleksandar Pavlovic has already made himself indispensable in Bayern’s midfield. According to recent media reports, the FCB youngster is about to make his debut for the German national team.
Next Friday, national coach Julian Nagelsmann will announce his squad for the two upcoming international matches against France (23 March) and the Netherlands (26 March).
Recently, there have been increasing reports that the 36-year-old wants to call up many new faces to the DFB team. In addition to Heidenheim’s shooting star Jan-Niklas Beste, Bayern high-flyer Aleksandar Pavlovic is also a hot topic for Nagelsmann.
Serbian association puts pressure on
Pavlovic has shown strong performances for the German record champions in recent weeks and has now established himself in Munich’s midfield. The original plan was for the 19-year-old to initially receive an invitation to play for Antonio Di Salvo’s U21 side. The problem: the Serbian football association is courting Pavlovic intensively and is ready to call him up to the senior national team immediately. The young talent is therefore being lured with a place in the squad for the European Football Championship in Germany.
The Serbian’s courtship has given the DFB, and Nagelsmann in particular, pause for thought. As BILD now reports, the current trend is that Pavlovic will be in the German senior squad for the games against France and the Netherlands this month for the first time.
Strong competition in the DFB midfield
One thing is clear: if Pavlovic is called up by Nagelsmann in March, the youngster will face plenty of competition. In addition to Leon Goretzka, captain Ilkay Gündogan and returnee Toni Kroos, Pascal Groß and Robert Andrich are also fighting for a place in the German EURO squad.
