In the tussle over Alphonso Davies‘ contract extension, a clear line is emerging from FC Bayern Munich. While the left-back is likely to insist on an annual salary of 20 million euros, those responsible at the German record champions have made their financial limits clear.
According to BILD, FC Bayern’s financial pain threshold for extending Davies‘ contract is 14 million euros a year. The Canadian international, whose contract runs until 2025, had initially demanded an annual salary of 20 million euros. It now seems clear that if Davies does not back down from his salary demands, FC Bayern will not extend his contract.
Recently, there have been repeated reports of Real Madrid’s possible interest in the left-back. Spanish media recently reported that the terms of a transfer between the clubs had almost been finalised. However, Davies‘ advisor Nedal Huoseh recently said in an interview with well-known transfer insider Fabrizio Romano that „nothing has been agreed or finalised with any club“. Furthermore, „Alphonso’s focus is currently on FC Bayern“. These words should give hope to many supporters of the Munich club.
Theo Hernández as Davies‘ replacement?
However, if no agreement is reached between Davies and FC Bayern, the club would appear to be prepared to let the player go for a transfer fee of around €70 million.
However, such a move would leave a significant gap in the team’s defence that would need to be filled. Theo Hernández from AC Milan is rumoured to be a potential replacement, for whom a transfer fee of up to 100 million euros has been mooted.
However, Bayern hope to be able to reduce the price for the French left-back to between 60 and 70 million euros. In addition to Hernández, Munich have also set their sights on Miguel Gutiérrez from FC Girona.
