Even though FC Bayern have been linked with countless coaches in recent weeks, Xabi Alonso remains Munich’s absolute favourite for the summer. According to the latest reports, the German record champions are even prepared to make the 42-year-old the most expensive coaching transfer of all time.
There are growing signs that FC Bayern are in pole position with Xabi Alonso. The Basque is on the radar of numerous top clubs, but as things stand today, Munich are in the best position to sign him in the summer.
According to Sky, Alonso is leaning towards a move to Säbener Straße. There have also been increasing reports in England recently that the German record champions have overtaken Liverpool FC in the bidding for Alonso.
Liverpool are already on the lookout for alternatives
According to Football Insider, one of the reasons for this is that Bayern are prepared to „break the bank“ for Alonso. In other words, the rumoured transfer fee of up to 25 million euros is not a deterrent for those in charge at the Isar. This would make Alonso the most expensive coaching transfer in history.
At Anfield Road, they already seem to be preparing for a failure in the Alonso poker. According to Football Insider, the Reds are on the lookout for alternatives to Alonso. Curious: One of them is said to be ex-Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann. The 36-year-old is only contractually bound to the DFB until after the end of the European Football Championship and would like to take on a job at club level again afterwards.
Eberl keeps a low profile with Alonso
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl denied reports on Saturday that FCB had already held concrete talks with Alonso: „No, we haven’t spoken to anyone yet. We have first orientated ourselves and looked around,“ he emphasised.
Interestingly, the 50-year-old did hint that Alonso is an issue at FCB: „We also know that one or two of our candidates have another club in mind. We will start talks at some point. But always respectfully, of course.“
Eberl seems to place particular importance on not upsetting those responsible in Leverkusen with public statements in the direction of Alonso.
