After FC Bayern’s 8:1 scoreline against Mainz 05, coach Thomas Tuchel is delighted, but also emphasises that it was hard work for his team. Goalscorer Harry Kane believes Thomas Tuchel can do anything.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has praised his team’s opponents despite their 8-1 home win over his former club Mainz 05 and emphasised how hard his stars had to work for the victory.

„Mainz played very well in the first half and were brave. We had to be mobile and work hard,“ said Tuchel at the post-match press conference.

The 50-year-old continued: „We didn’t lose our heads and order when they had the ball. We tackled very well, which is a good sign. We had good phases with the ball and created a lot of chances, which we also capitalised on.“

Tuchel summarised the match: „We’re very happy with the win. But despite the result, it was a close game for long stretches of the first half.“

Tuchel on Kane: „It’s a gift to be his coach“

Goalscorer Harry Kane scored a treble against Mainz and now has 30 goals to his name after 25 Bundesliga games. When asked whether he believes Kane can break Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a season, Tuchel replied: „I believe he can do anything. He’s doing what he’s always done – throughout his career. He’s a role model, a great personality, a top player. It’s a gift to be his coach. He proves week after week that it was the right decision to hire him.“

After a long injury, Serge Gnabry is fit again and scored a goal with a back-heel after coming on as a substitute. Tuchel commented: „A very difficult goal. It’s great for him, of course, because he’s been out for a long time now. Great runs, great passing and a very intuitive, unconventional finish, that was great.“
