The search for a coach at FC Bayern is in full swing. According to consistent media reports, Xabi Alonso is the absolute favourite candidate of the Munich management. However, another is not a candidate at Säbener Straße.

Xabi Alonso is still by far the hottest candidate for the coaching position at FC Bayern that will become vacant in the summer. However, signing the Spaniard is proving complicated. According to reports, a quick agreement is not to be expected, as Alonso first wants to finish the season with Leverkusen as successfully as possible.

Although Sky recently reported that there had been an initial exchange between Bayern and Alonso and that this had been positive, Bayern bosses are said to be looking at various alternatives in the background.

Long list of potential Tuchel successors

Over the past few days, numerous coaches have been linked with Thomas Tuchel’s successor. It has been reported, for example, that new sporting director Max Eberl is said to be a great admirer of Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian has been doing an excellent job with the Seagulls for years and has an exit clause of €10 million.

Sebastian Hoeneß was also considered a candidate at Säbener Straße until recently. However, as VfB Stuttgart announced on Friday, the Swabians have extended the 41-year-old’s contract early until 2027. A move to FCB should therefore be ruled out for the time being.

Mourinho not a candidate in Munich

According to transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, José Mourinho, on the other hand, is not an option for the German record champions. The Portuguese has recently been repeatedly mentioned as a possible candidate. In the meantime, reports have been circulating that Mourinho himself is seeking a move to FCB and is even said to be learning German.

The 61-year-old has been without a coaching job since leaving AS Roma and would therefore be available immediately. In his career, Mourinho has won the Champions League twice and various championships in England, Spain and Italy.
