When it comes to a possible shake-up in the FC Bayern squad, the name Joshua Kimmich usually comes up quickly. The German international still has a contract in Munich until 2025 and there is constant speculation surrounding him. Now Kimmich himself has spoken out about his future.
FC Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich has commented on the speculation surrounding his future following the German record champions‘ 8:1 thumping of Mainz 05.
„I still have over a year left on my contract, nobody has spoken to me yet. I’m relaxed,“ said Kimmich after the game in the Allianz Arena.
The 29-year-old continued: „For me, it’s about showing my performance, that’s the most important thing. And then we’ll see what happens.“
When asked whether he felt comfortable at FC Bayern, he replied: „Yes! In Munich too. It’s not all that bad here.“
So it would appear that Kimmich is not averse to extending his contract at FCB.
Eberl wants to make Kimmich’s future a top priority
Recently, there have been repeated rumours about a possible departure. As he could leave on a free transfer when his contract expires after next season, Bayern would have to consider selling the German international this summer if they are unable to agree an extension. New sporting director Max Eberl has already announced that he wants to make Kimmich’s future a top priority. „I will sit down with him,“ said Eberl.
According to Kimmich’s statement, this has obviously not yet happened, although Eberl has only been in office since 1 March.
Several top European clubs have already been linked with Kimmich. FC Barcelona, Manchester City and Liverpool FC are said to be interested in signing Kimmich. Most recently, there were also reports of interest from Arsenal FC.
