FC Bayern wins the second leg of the round of 16 against Lazio Rome and advances to the quarter-finals of the Champions League Harry Kane scores a brace. Thomas Müller also scores.
FC Bayern won the second leg against Lazio Roma 3:0. After losing 1-0 in the first leg in Rome, the reigning German champions booked their place in the last eight of the Champions League.
Harry Kane headed FCB into the lead in the 39th minute. Pavlovic delivered a high cross into the penalty area, where it found the head of Thomas Müller, who laid it back to Raphael Guerreiro. The Portuguese failed to hit the ball properly, but it flew to Harry Kane, who was able to head in.
Kane ice-cold in front of goal
Müller then made it 2:0 for Munich shortly before the half-time whistle. A corner from Guerreiro was not sufficiently cleared by the Lazio defence. FCB defender Matthijs de Ligt was lurking to the right of the goal and took a right-footed shot. Müller came rushing in and headed in.
In the second half, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team left nothing to chance.
In the 66th minute, superstar Kane made it 3:0 with a brace. Leroy Sané pulled inside on the edge of the penalty area and struck a powerful left-footed shot. Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel could only clap the ball away and it flew to the feet of Kane, who also scored with his left foot.
Bayern were the dominant team for the entire match against a defensive-minded and largely uninspired Italian side and ultimately won the home game with aplomb.
The victory puts the German record champions through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Which team FCB will then have to face will be decided on 15 March. The quarter-final draw will then be made at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon.
