FC Bayern need a win to progress in the second leg of their round of 16 tie against Lazio Roma. The Munich side led at half-time thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Thomas Müller.
FC Bayern lead 2-0 at half-time against Lazio Roma, with Harry Kane heading FCB into the lead in the 39th minute. Pavlovic delivered a high cross into the penalty area, where it found the head of Thomas Müller, who laid it back to Raphael Guerreiro. The Portuguese failed to hit the ball properly, but it flew to Harry Kane, who was able to head in.
Müller then made it 2:0 for Munich shortly before the half-time whistle. A corner from Guerreiro was not sufficiently cleared by the Lazio defence. FCB defender Matthijs de Ligt was lurking to the right of the goal and took a right-footed shot. Müller came rushing in and headed in.
Bayern were clearly the dominant team in the first half against the defensive-minded Italians.
The first good chance for Bayern came from Jamal Musiala, who took heart and shot from around 20 metres in the 14th minute. Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel was unable to hold on and tapped the ball to the side.
Immobile with a headed chance for Lazio
Three minutes later, Kane then took a shot from the edge of the box, but the sharp shot went just wide right.
There was a moment of shock in the 37th minute: Ciro Immobile came close to the Munich goal with a header, but put it just wide.
Two minutes later, however, Kane scored the important opening goal for the German record champions. Müller then made sure of the half-time score in first-half stoppage time.
Bayern lost the first leg in Rome 1-0, meaning they will need a win by at least two goals to progress or a one-goal margin to force extra time.
