Before the match Freiburg vs Bayern live on TV and livestream: This is the situation
After three defeats in a row against RB Leipzig, FC Bayern were able to celebrate a long-awaited sense of achievement. Star striker Harry Kane redeemed the Munich side in stoppage time of the clash to make the final score 2-1. Meanwhile, Sportclub lost to FC Augsburg on the previous matchday (1:2).
Munich were finally able to get the win against RB that they had been longing for, but now the improved performance of the players must be maintained in order to celebrate a fitting end to the season. Munich are still eight points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen in second place in the Bundesliga. In addition, they go into next Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 tie against Lazio Rome as challengers after losing the first leg. The home win against the Saxons must therefore have been just the beginning if they are to win anything this season.
Freiburg, meanwhile, are only in moderate form. Although the Breisgau side were able to celebrate reaching the round of 16 in the Europa League with a late comeback against Lens (3:2), they have been winless in the league for five games in a row. Sportclub’s only Bundesliga win this year came against Hoffenheim on matchday 18. Freiburg are currently in a secure ninth place in the Bundesliga midfield.
For Bayern, the opening game of matchday 24 will also be about maintaining the gap on the Werkself and hoping for a slip-up from their direct rivals. In the first half of the season, Munich won 3:0 against Freiburg.
Thomas Tuchel on Freiburg: „We need answers“
At the press conference ahead of Friday’s game, Thomas Tuchel said the following about Freiburg: „Freiburg are very variable. They may adapt very quickly to our basic organisation. Tactically, they’re very flexible, they can be a back four or a back five. We need a few answers and we’ll prepare the team for that. It’s also very emotional in Freiburg as the underdogs. We have to prepare for that.“
At the same time, the 50-year-old emphasised the importance of this match ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Lazio:““We need to step up our game. We have achieved a turnaround. I believe it has energised us. We can only do it with full focus. Friday night in Freiburg is always difficult. Full focus tomorrow.“
