Bayer Leverkusen have had an outstanding season so far – just like Florian Wirtz. Apparently, the Werkself can also count on the youngster in the future.
Florian Wirtz is currently one of the hottest commodities in European football. In the current season, the 20-year-old has scored 25 goals in 31 competitive matches and has played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run this season and the club’s quest for its first ever league title.
Naturally, the German international has aroused great desire. Practically every top European club is said to have Wirtz at the top of their wish list. The high-class technician has also been linked with a transfer to FC Bayern for years.
No transfer in the summer of 2024
However, a transfer is apparently not going to happen soon. The exceptional talent’s father and advisor explained: „Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027. That will also be roughly the amount of time he will spend in Leverkusen.“ They want to „at least wait for the next two years. Then we’ll see where the path leads. There is no answer to what will happen then.“
A few weeks ago, Hans-Joachim Wirtz had already indicated that Bayer Leverkusen offered his son the best prospects for taking the next steps in his development. „It will still take some time for him to reach a level where he can consistently deliver these performances,“ says Wirtz. And it is precisely this consistency that is the basic prerequisite for a move to a top European club: „Only then can we talk about superlatives and higher qualifications.“
Florian is also „very lucky“ to have Xabi Alonso as his coach. The Spaniard has „many qualities“ and is „great with the whole team“. For Hans-Joachim Wirtz, Xabi Alonso is therefore „the right coach at the right time.“
