Who will be the new Bayern coach? This question is not only on the minds of new sporting director Max Eberl, the supporters of the German record champions have also been discussing numerous names for days. Ex-Bayern professional Martin Demichelis is now being rumoured as another FCB coach.
As if the list of potential coaching candidates at FC Bayern wasn’t already long enough, Spanish sport has brought another name into play at Säbener Straße in the shape of Martin Demichelis. The former Bayern professional played for FC Bayern from 2003 to 2011 and won four German championships and nine other national titles with the club.
After his active career, the Argentinian returned to the Isar as a coach in 2019. He initially stood on the touchline with the U19s at the Bayern Campus before coaching Bayern’s second team in the regional league. Demichelis moved back to his home country at the start of 2023 and has been head coach at Argentinian top-flight club River Plate since then.
„I’m leaving this club with a lot of gratitude in my heart and am now looking forward to the big task at my second favourite club. River is the Bayern Munich of South America. They have very similar principles, values and methods,“ explained Demichelis at the time of his move.
Demichelis celebrates immediate success with River Plate
„Micho“ enjoyed immediate success with his youth club. He won the championship with the club from Buenos Aires in his very first year. After 63 competitive matches, he averaged two points per game.
According to Sport, Bayern bosses have their eye on Demichelis. The problem is that the 43-year-old has no thoughts of transferring and feels very comfortable at River Plate. Furthermore, Demichelis has no experience at top European level, which currently makes a move to FC Bayern very unlikely.
