AFCON win with Senegal, amazing goalscoring season with Liverpool and good start with Bayern have brought Sadio pretty high in voting this year with some joournalists even saying that he is on the second place behind ultimate favourite Karim Benzema, who had a historic season with Real Madrid and the best individual season of his career.

Senegaleese forward had this to say about his chances for this prestigous award:

„Honestly, I think that Karim deserves it this year. He’s had a great, great season with Real Madrid. He’s won the Champions League I think he easily deserves it, so I’m really happy for him. I know I won the African Cup of Nations, it was a relief for me and for the whole country, and I’m really happy to have won my first AFCON with my country. But I think it’s Karim who deserves it, and I honestly believe that“ said former Liverpool winger.

With Mane being reported second place, this will mean that Bayern will have a second ranked player in the world for 2 years in a row and a fourth top 3 player in the last 8 years which is just another proof of the continuizy and quality of Bayern in this golden age period for the club.

This second place can be a big motivation and factor regarding Mane. If he continues his good form, he can easily be one of the top contenders once again for this prestigious award and become the first African since George Weah to become the best player in the world.
